HTML Frames & Search Engines
HTML Frames allow you to create independently scrollable windows inside
your web browser.
Don't use them unless you just cannot do better.· Because the first page on a
site that uses frames contains nothing more than references to other HTML
files, you lose the opportunity to plug your keywords. Frames can be a
useful navigation device, but be this can be a great penalty to some of
the best search engines. If frames are absolutely necessary, at least
provide a non-frames HTML tag which will provide a search engine spider
with something to index. The vast majority of internet browsers in use
today support frames so very few people will actually read the non-frames
page.
If somebody finds one of your Frame pages on a search engine and clicks on
it, they will only see that frame and not the rest of the frames that you
intended them to see. Consequently, it is critical to provide links to
other areas of your web site or you risk trapping your visitor with
nowhere to go but back to the search engine. You lose.
