Key Words & Search Engines
Key Words are one or multiple word combinations that describe your web
site, business or purpose.
- Carefully select your keywords. Concentrate on emphasizing 10 or 15
keywords or keyword combinations.
- Use keyword combinations. Most people submit 2 words when doing a
search engine search.
- Use Key Word META tag in the Heading section of you HTML code.
Example:
< head>
< meta NAME="KeyWords" CONTENT="Key1, Key2,
Key3">
< /head>
- Use key words in < title > of your Web page. (See
META Tags discussion)
- Use your key words in paragraph headings. (See Heading Styles
discussion)
- Don't attempt to artificially emphasize a keyword with continual
repetition. Ex. KEYWORD KEYWORD KEYWORD KEYWORD. Most search engines
have algorithms to exclude words repeated too frequently.
- Use key words in the "ALT" section of your image source
tag. Since search engine spiders are analyzing your web site text,
this is another opportunity to plug your key words.
Example:
< img src="logo.gif" alt="Measure Search Engine
Penetration" border="0">
- Don't go out of your way targeting your own company name as a key
word. This should be the easiest one to promote. Most people searching
for a web site on a specific topic do not know your name anyway. An
exception to this rule would apply if a competitor has done a better
job promoting your name than you have.
