Canada - June 1999 Our first adventure this summer was a week houseboating on Shuswap Lake in British Columbia, Canada. It was a truly wonderful experience and one we would recommend to all. Our most memorable moment was when we spotted a bald eagle's nest. It was very close to shore and we were able to get in quite close for a look. Mama eagle was guarding her two chicks and we got to watch as she fed her hungry offspring. We even got to see papa eagle who was on the ground about a hundred feet away, looking like he didn't have a care in the world.

This was our home away from home, named Jessica I. She served us well and we got to be pretty good at finding a nice place to dock for the evening. The boys also got an opportunity to steer her and they did real well.
| "The one that got away..." is usually our mantra,
but Bryant did catch two squawfish. The first one we fried up for him, but it really
was bony so the second one he just released. Lucky for the fish.

To me the real fun was just floating in the lake. The water was cool, but since the weather was warm, it felt good. Our "Sundial" was big enough for all of us and we enjoyed floating around. The boys also had hours of fun with their water guns. |

This photo was taken at the viewpoint on an island in the lake. Right before the photo was taken, two osprey and a bald eagle flew by us.

We hiked in about a mile to see this cascade of falls. The picture really doesn't do it justice, but take our word for it, it was magnificent and the sound of pounding water could be heard well before it was seen. |

Bryant, just before going down the slide. Since the days were long and the weather warm, the kids got to go swimming and sliding well past 9 o'clock at night.
