House in Progress

As many of you know, we started our "Dream House" at the end of 2000. This house has been on the back burner since we first bought the property in 1986. In fact we signed the papers for the property before Spenser was born in July of that year. Spenser's admission to York School was the impetus we needed to go forward. York is literally down the hill from the property and from the "house" we look onto the soccer field.

The building process has been an experience for us amateurs. It was about 2 years from when we said "yes, lets do it" to getting that building permit in hand. It continues to be an education as we have taken on the task of being our own general contractor.

Along the way we have met some wonderful subs and some not so great ones, but we continue to push forward. Randy has been able to be onsite about 3 days a week for a number of hours, and the weekends are pretty much devoted to working there. The boys have been pressed into service. They have learned to do a little concrete work, some carpentry and by the end of this experience will be full-fledge home builders.
