"You’ll have a sub named Mr. Lucifur" she said. "I hope you will show him your best behavior while he is here."
The next day, I saw a tall, thin man about thirty-five, wearing a coat with his black hair slicked back. He opened the door and quickly closed it. He also covered the windows.
After Assembly we stepped inside and it looked like someone had ransacked the place. Chairs were lying on the floor. Decorations and books were strung all over the place. It was also hot. It felt as if someone had struck the classroom into an oven and turned it on high.
After we cleaned the classroom it was time for Religion, but Mrs. Perkins didn’t show up. MR. Lucifur said she wasn’t coming that day and he gave us a lot of work instead.
Caroline asked Mr. Lucifur to turn down the heat. He glared at her and gave her an immediate detention. After that, nobody asked about the heat. In fact, nobody asked about anything.
We also received only five minutes of recess, except for lunch when we got fifteen minutes. During our recess period most of us had to do work anyway. The kids who didn’t do work were miserable too.
Today is the second day we’ve had with Mr. Lucifur. "take out your reading books," he said. "Josh B. go outside!" Joshua burped in reply. Mr. Lucifur stared at him and gave him detention. "Go outside" commanded Mr. Lucifur.
When Josh left Mr. Lucifur said, "As I was saying, take out your reading books." He gave us two stories in our Skill Pack and two stories to read. We also had to do both vocabulary sheets and two or three additional activities!
At eleven fifteen we went to P.E. and had lunch. During lunch, I told Tyler I thought Mr. Lucifur was, well Lucifer. Tyler just said, "Yeah right!" Then the bell rang and we went inside.
At twelve o’clock Mr. Lucifur gave us four pages in Math. We were working on long division and there were ninety-four problems. It seemed to take forever, but the worst part was we had to listen to kids playing outside.
After Math Mr. Lucifur gave us then pages in Science. We were learning about non-living parts of the eco-system.
Last recess, I convinced Tyler Mr. Lucifur was actually Lucifer. We talked about how to get rid of him for the rest of recess.
When I walked in, I noticed for the first time the Cross was not up. He probably took it down so he wouldn’t shrivel up, I thought. When he dismissed us, we did not say prayer. This made sense since he was the devil.
At home I called Tyler about Mr. Lucifur and when I hung up I was smiling.
The next day was normal. Mr. Lucifur loaded us down with work. We had our usual five minute recess periods except for lunch which was fifteen minutes long again. There was only one difference. For the first time in two days I was smiling.
After school Tyler and I waited for Mr. Lucifur to come out. After about thirty minutes we decided to go around the back and peek in the windows. We snuck around to the overgrown back area. Earlier that year, I had help clean the back area, but it had grown back. We walked over to the window and gasped. Mr. Lucifur was not there! In his place was the actual Lucifer. His black hair was now red, with small horns poking out. His clothes were red, a red cape, red pants, and a red shirt. His skin was even red and twisted. He was carrying a red forked stick and his tail poked out from under his cape.
He looked out the window and saw us. We knew he spotted us, but we were frozen in horror. "RUN!" I screamed and we took off.
We ran and ran but the street seemed deserted. I looked back and tripped. It’s a good thing too, because Tyler kept on running and a few steps forward he fell through the ground and into dark nothingness. I stumbled back in horror and ran straight into Satan. It was then I screamed and woke up. "Time to go to school," my mom said.
At school we had a nice substitute named Mr. Lucifur.
