In the beginning ... Jan. 2002
|
February 2001 February is a short month, but with some rain delays the construction seemed to drag on. We did however, manage to pour several times this month, and had most of the walls done. Believe it or not, the concrete walls are 8 inches thick and in some areas as high as 10 feet. That is a lot of concrete. |

The spotty wall is part of Randy's workshop located in the basement. The
white paint is actually damp-proofing material. What you don't see is the
tons and tons of gravel around the house for the french drains. Ken
has assured us that we will never have water in the basement, or in the
house.
As Ken is happy to tell us, "don't try to stop the water, just give it a place to go."

The retaining wall steps down as you "walk" out into the daylight. It's a huge space that will be put to good use. |
This corner of the basement will have storage space and the crawl space under Spenser and Bryant's room which is a half a flight up the stairs. The rest is a bath and open space.

Spenser, hard at work taking down the bracing so that we can remove the forms.

Believe it or not, Bryant is actually below grade, in an area we fondly called "The Hole". He's taking out the little wedges that helped to keep the forms from buckling. Bryant spent a lot of time in there, as he was the perfect size to work in the tight space.
