January 2001

We had a great start, but our luck with the rains did not quite hold up in January. Regardless, we forged ahead and were lucky in that our walls did not cave in, or erode, it was just a matter of time delay. Not that we are very good at being patient, but we are learning.

Batter boards everywhere!

Here you see the beginning of what we discovered is the concrete guys best friend - batter boards. No line is pulled without setting up several batter boards to check, and recheck level.

These boards were set up for the first forms we needed for footings around the house. With California earthquake codes, we have HUGE footings around the house. Believe me this house isn't going any where!

January 19

We had our first concrete pour, hooray!!! But definitely not our last. This pour was for the footings in the basement and the boys room, and the dining room.

Our very first concrete delivery.

This was the first of three trucks.

The guys pumping the concrete into the forms.

Randy helping Bryant write his name in the footing below his room.

The finished product.

Spenser writing his name.

Spenser's Name in Concrete

Spenser, concentrating on writing his name on the footing under his room.

Lots and lots of batter board

The rest of the month was spent putting up more batter boards and building the forms for retaining walls.
