In the beginning ... Jan. 2002
|
June 2001 S-L-O-W-L-Y, things are progressing. I guess we just feel like we should be further along than we are, but when contractors don't show up, things go slowly. The plumbers appeared this month and we now have pipes running along the joist and heating ducts going everywhere, so that's definitely progressing. Our next big thing will be getting the electrical wiring done.

Something else is progressing - the garage. Here our trusses have arrived. The crane gently placed them upright and on top of the walls. We then braced them so they aren't going anywhere until we have a chance to get them nailed. |

Can you see Randy peeking out on the right there? |

Here some of the walls for the boys bedrooms are erected. We are waiting for the go ahead to cover their floors before we can complete the rooms. |

Hey mom, here's a peek at "your" room. The natural light for the room will come from the sliding glass door that takes you on to a deck right under the oak tree.

Here's a wide view of the breakfast nook. It sits above my office and the walls you see are 11 ft. 6 in. high. The roof will raise that by another 3 ft. or so. |
A close up of the breakfast nook, the room is surrounded by 5 - 5 ft. high windows and then a small transom window to top off. There will be lots of light in this room |

This is the opening for the sliding glass doors that will take you from the breakfast nook onto the deck.

Here's Spenser working on hammering in the plywood on the trusses to give
both structure, and for storage. There is a lot of storage space up there.
Bryant is out on the truss hammering in the spacer/bracers. Those things
work great, we didn't have to fuss about whether or not the trusses were
spaced correctly. Believe me, when you're moving 150 lbs. across 20 ft.
plus, and 8 ft. off the ground, you want to simplify everything! The
boys did great, we had this system all worked out and moving the trusses
was a breeze. I do have to admit, at first I was very nervous about having
them work at such heights, but they proved to be very responsible and so
helpful.

The boys really liked working on the trusses. The view from up there isn't too shabby either. I'm most interested in the storage space.

It's starting to look like a garage. We need to finish blocking, finish shear walls, and to put a roof on it, but getting the trusses on was a major accomplishment for us. Today I'm ordering the garage doors and before you know it, we'll have a garage.
