Living in Monterey, we came across an interesting and colorful advertising collectible from a long defunct Cannery Row anchovy packer. This is a tin lid used on sardine style tins, packed by Enterprise Packers of Monterey. The company was in business from 1900 to 1949. They were located at 242 Wave St. in the heart of Cannery Row, made famous by John Steinbeck in his book of the same name. Most of the area fish canning business dried up in the 1950s and today Cannery Row houses retail business, restaurants and the world famous Monterey Bay Aquarium. These lids are a beautiful bright red with gold trim, and are shiny bright tin on the inside, with rubberized groove seals. These are vintage original, and not a reproduction. Labeling on the front indicates "Don Antonio Brand" California Anchovies, Packed Sardine Style in Tomato Sauce, Product of U.S.A., and marked with Enterprise Packers,Monterey, Calif. Lid measures about 6 inches by 3-1/2 inches (150mm x 90mm) Great for collectors of labels, tins, and advertising. Also great for home or kitchen decor, and could even be made into a refrigerator magnet. Condition:
