Clear, Glossy Real Photo Postcard looking down a residential street, "Officer's Row" in Vancouver Barracks, Washington, in 1918. Fort Vancouver, on the Columbia River is consdiered to be the most historically significant site in the Pacific Northwest. The residential area of fine Victorian mansions built mid 1800s were suffering after the 1930s when they were allowed to decay. Fort Vancouver National Historic Site was annexed to the City of Vancouver in the spring of 1974. A grassroots effort to save the historic site began in the mid-1970s, and the stately houses have been restored. This early image shows the street looking its military best, with a row of cannon guarding the barracks.
Card has been trimmed, and now measures 3 inches by 5-1/8 inches instead of the normal 3-1/2 by 5-3/8 inches. The back scan shows better the slight trimming of the postcard.
