Sepia-tone Real Photo Postcard showing the businesses in Dana, Iowa in 1911. The town in Greene County (30 miles from Ames and 50 miles from Des Moines) must not have been very large a hundred years ago, and is less than a hundred population today. Much of the town seems to be dressed up and standing on the sidewalk for this photo. The building with the awning has a sign that is something like "D. A. Swayson and Co." Several horse hitching posts are seen in the dirt street in the inset below.
Card reverse has a handwritten note from Alpha to her sister, Mrs. Ray Gardnier of Gilmore City, Iowa. Posted from Dana November 15, 1911.
Mailed using one cent Franklin stamp. An interesting and RARE addition to your Iowa small town historical collection. Condition:
