RPPC-Clearing for oil, New Salem, Kansas 1916

This clear glossy photo looks to be a clearing near New Salem, Kansas, in preparation for oil drilling in 1916. There is much detail in the picture, but it is difficult to identify everything (check out detail in this photo inset).

Card is written on in back - "Will send you a picture of the reservoir. They are putting up the oil derrick. It is just north of the creek on Coffy.  Nettie" 

Stamped with a one cent Washington stamp, postmarked New Salem, Kans, June 17, 1916. Addressed to San Antonio, New Mexico.

Condition:

  • Very Clear glossy card
  • Corners show minimal dog-ears
  • Excellent condition
