Sharp, Sepia-tone Real Photo Postcard of the San Francisco City Hall builidng and the Jubilee Arch, illuminated at night for California's Admission Day Diamond Jubilee celebration, 1925. The DIAMOND JUBILEE 1925 refers to the 75th anniversary of California's admission into the Union as a state, September 9, 1850. The celebration from September 6-12 was marked by numerous festivities and parades. The San Francisco landmark City Hall was dedicated in 1915 after being reconstructed after the 1906 earthquake. It was a centerpiece of the Jubilee, covering two city blocks and featuring the fifth tallest dome in the world. It is one of the finest examples of Beaux Arts architecture in the country. The Jubilee Arch or "Arco de Brilliantes" was constructed in front of City hall in the Civic Center grounds. It included 75,000 lights, a thousand for each of the years of California state history.
