Sharp, clear, gloss Real Photo postcard, that appears to be a RPPC printed in the 1950s of a negative or a second generation photo of a 1930's image. The reprint of the photo, as well as the original are from Dedman's Photo Studio, which still operates in Skagway. They bill themselves as "Skagway's oldest family-owned business" and has been in operation since the late 1800s. The original photo depicts a steam locomotive hooked to passenger cars rolling through Broadway Street in Skagway. There is no Dedman identification number however "Dedman's Photo Shop" is printed on the card. In 1898 a railroad right-of-way was blasted through the mountains, and the White Pass & Yukon Railway narrow gauge railroad was built to appease the influx of new town citizens participating in the Gold Rush. The privately owned White Pass & Yukon Railway carried visitors and vehicles on a 110-mile mountain-and-tunnel track between Skagway and Whitehorse until 1982.. Coming down the WP&YR tracks is a Baldwin Locomotive 4-6-0 type or "tenwheeler" typically used for passenger traffic. This is engine number 67, C/N #18965, that entered service in 1901 and retired 1941. Signs clearly visible on the card include Films-Cup.., Enrichter Jewelry and Curios, Broadway Drugs, and Canadian National.
Titled "Broadway - Skagway, Alaska in 1930's" Has the number "33" written on the back most likely by a former card collector, however card not posted. Stampbox Kodak. A fine and RARE addition to your historical small town northern Alaska or Railroad collection. Condition:
